Profile

To get advanced knowledge in Music and to develop performing skills. M. A .Music was started in the year 1987 under the Self- financed section. Vocal and Veena are offered as optional practical papers. Students are given opportunity to learn Veena and Violin as Major Based Elective course. A separate paper titled ‘Concert’ is incorporated in the syllabus to enhance performing skills.


Goals
  • To inculcate and develop an aesthetic sense of music and to explore the portals of Indian music, both vocal and instrumental
Objectives
  • To instill the necessary skill to master the art of singing devotional songs in Sanskrit, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Tamil
  • To develop performing skills
  • To develop the sense of appreciating music and writing reviews
  • To train students for self-employment and provide opportunities for placement

Department
  • Students and faculty members participate in Thyagaraja Aradana - an International Music Festival held at  Thiruvaiyaru  every year
  • Students are offered traing in devotinal music and functional music by Marabu Foundation, Tiruvaiyaru
  •  Bhajans  and Classical dance  classes offered for  the  students of  Veeran Middle School Children by the faculty and students under extention activity
  • Training in Hymns offered by students for 10 days  at the spiritual training camp at Thayumanavar Swamy Temple , Trichy
  • Faculty Development Programme was conducted for college teachers
  • Summer course  in  Vocal and Veena was conducted for housewives and school children
Students
  • Ms.B.Mithra and Ms.S.Balasaraswathi gave a dance performance at Nathiyanjali  International Dance Festival at Chidambaram
  • Music department Bhajan troupe  won I prize in the International  Bhajan competition conduted by Marabu Foundation, Thiruvaiyaru

  • A book titled Ninnaye Gathiyendru was realeased by Dr.S.Mythili ( ISBN : 978-81-920622-8-0  /2016)
  • An audio CD titled Ninnaye Gathiyendru containing devotional songs was released by faculty members
  • An audio CD  titled Swachch Bharath that contains a song on  Clean India was released by faculty members
  • College song has been composed by Dr.S.Mythili
  • The students of the department have won the I and II prizes in the All India Radio Music competition consecutively for 31 years
  • Conducted  a UGC sponsored three day national level seminar
  • An MoU has been signed with Marabu Foundation and Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram
  • Faculty  members regularly participate in Thyagaraja Aradhana at  Tiruvaiyaru, an  International music festival
