About Us             

SEERAS Diet Clinic was established by the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics to extend awareness and knowledge about healthy diet and lifestyle to the public. The students are also trained to provide counselling to various health-related issues with the view to training them as health ambassadors. Important days specific to nutrition and health are observed to create awareness among students and public. All the sectors of the population are covered with special emphasis on lifestyle disorders and non-communicable diseases.

The regular activities include anthropometric measurements, biochemical estimation, biophysical analysis, assessment of Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP), Disease Detection Camps, observation of important health days and conduct of awareness programmes.

Activities

World Breast feeding Week’2024
  • The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics’ SEERA’S DIET CLINIC hosted the first meeting on 02nd August 2024 in connection with World Breastfeeding Week’ 2024 in the theme of “Closing the Gap- Breast Feeding Support for All”
  • The event was organised in collaboration with Ekam Foundation, Indian Academy of Paediatrics, Rotary Club of Tiruchirappalli Metro, and National Neonatology Forum
  • Dr. P. Sivagurunathan, highlighted on the importance of breastfeeding and encourage students to be ambassadors of breastfeeding
  • Dr. Kiruthika Punitha Kumar emphasized on the need to improve breastfeeding support to reduce inequalities that exist in our society with a special focus on breastfeeding in times of emergencies and crises
World Organ Donation Day
  • On August 19, 2024, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, in collaboration with SEERA’S DIET CLINIC, successfully organized a special lecture in observance of World Organ Donation DayThe primary focus of the lecture was on the significance of organ donation, a crucial topic that aims to raise awareness and promote the importance of this life-saving act.
  • The keynote address was delivered by Dr. S. Kumaragurubaran M.D.,D.M., a renowned Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist from Apollo Speciality Hospital, Tiruchirappalli
  • His address provided in-depth insights into the medical and ethical aspects of organ donation, drawing attention to the ongoing need for more donors
Nutritional Assessment and Counselling for Self-help women
  • On August 27, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics & SEERA’S Diet Clinic, Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, organized a "Nutritional Assessment and Counselling" session for self-help women
  • The event aimed to promote healthy nutrition and raise awareness of its significance for a healthy life and body
  • The session involved comprehensive nutritional assessments, followed by personalized counselling sessions to educate and empower women from self-help groups on maintaining balanced diets and making informed food choices
  • The event successfully highlighted the importance of proper nutrition and offered practical advice to improve overall health and well-being
Nutritional Assessment and Counselling for Non- teaching staff
  • The final year students of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and SEERA’S DIET CLINIC conducted a “Nutritional Assessment and Counselling” session for the Non-teaching staff of our institution on 27.08.2024
  • The primary objective of this initiative was to evaluate the nutritional status, dietary habits, and health concerns of the non-teaching staff members and provide personalized counselling to promote healthier lifestyles
  • The assessment involved a comprehensive approach that included: Anthropometric Measurements such as weight, height, Body Mass Index (BMI). Based on the findings from the assessments, the students provided individualized nutritional counselling to each participant
  • The counselling sessions were tailored to address the specific dietary needs and health concerns of the staff members
  • It also provided the final year students with practical experience in applying their theoretical knowledge in real-life situations
Nutritional Assessment and Counselling for School children, Kambarasampettai
  • On August 30, 2024, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics of Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College & Seera’s Diet Clinic, in collaboration with Panchayat Union Primary School, Kambarasampettai, Tiruchirappalli organized a nutritional assessment and counselling session for school children.
  • The event took place at Panchayat Union Primary School, Kambarasampettai, Trichy, and aimed to promote healthy eating habits among young students by providing them with essential nutrition-related information.
  • The day’s activities included a comprehensive nutritional assessment of the participating children, which involved measuring their height, weight.
  • Approximately 38 students took part in this initiative, which received a positive response from both the children and their teachers. The program not only raised awareness about healthy eating but also encouraged students to adopt better dietary habits.
  • The children were actively engaged and participated enthusiastically in the discussions, demonstrating a keen interest in learning about nutrition and health.
Nutritional Assessment and Counselling for Self-help group, Kambarasampettai
  • The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, SEERA’S Diet Clinic, Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College in collaboration with self-help group women of Kambarasampettai, Tiruchirappalli successfully organized a nutritional assessment and counselling program on August 30, 2024
  • The primary goal of the program was to assess the nutritional status of the self-help group women and provide personalized dietary counselling.
  • The initiative aimed to enhance awareness about healthy eating habits, balanced diets, and overall wellness among the women
  • The event witnessed the active participation of around 50 women belonging to various self-help groups from Kambarasampettai. These women were eager to learn about improving their nutritional status and gaining insights into maintaining a healthy lifestyle
  • The program involved a detailed nutritional assessment of each participant, including body measurements and nutritional counselling. The counselling focused on addressing specific dietary needs, correcting nutritional deficiencies, and promoting healthy eating patterns suitable for their lifestyles
  • The event not only provided valuable nutritional insights to the women but also strengthened the community's commitment to promoting health and wellness

World Heart Day’2024

  • In commemoration of World Heart Day 2024, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, SEERA'S Diet Clinic, Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, organized a special lecture titled “Healthy Heart, Happy Life” on the 3rd of October 2024.
  • The objective of the lecture was to raise awareness about cardiovascular health, provide practical strategies for maintaining a healthy heart, and emphasize the significance of diet and lifestyle choices in the prevention of heart diseases.
  • The resource person for the event was Ms. G. Rajalakshimi, M.Sc., a renowned Dietician from Trichy SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre. She delivered an insightful and engaging presentation on heart health.
  • Ms. Rajalakshimi explained that cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are among the leading causes of mortality worldwide and stressed the role that diet, exercise, and mental well-being play in reducing the risk of heart diseases.
  • She outlined several key factors contributing to poor heart health, including unhealthy eating habits, lack of physical activity, and chronic stress.
  • Participants learned about the benefits of consuming heart-friendly foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids. She also advised against excessive consumption of processed foods, sugary snacks, and foods high in trans fats.

World Breast feeding Month’2024 at various Government and Private Hospitals

  • In celebration of Breastfeeding Month ‘2024, the final year students of Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College undertook a series of initiatives aimed at disseminating vital nutrition knowledge to various government and private hospitals
  • This report outlines the activities conducted, their objectives, outcomes, and recommendations for future efforts which includes to raise awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding, educational resources on proper breastfeeding techniques and maternal nutrition, create a supportive environment for new and expectant mothers and to gather feedback on community knowledge and attitudes towards breastfeeding
  • The dissemination of nutrition knowledge during Breastfeeding Month’ 2024 by the Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College’s Department of Nutrition and Dietetics successfully achieved its goals of raising awareness and supporting breastfeeding mothers
  • The positive feedback and high participation rates underscore the importance of continued education and community support in promoting breastfeeding practices. Participants reported a greater understanding of breastfeeding benefits and techniques and mothers expressed increased confidence in their ability to breastfeed successfully
