Anti-Ragging Committee

Ragging is strictly banned in Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College.  If anybody indulges in any form of ragging, strict action will be taken. The college ensures that ragging is prevented in any form adhering to the law enforced on educational institutions by the Government.

Regulations

To prohibit any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student, or indiscipline activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student or asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student, with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher or any other student; and thereby, to eliminate ragging in all its forms from universities, deemed universities and other higher educational institutions in the country by prohibiting it under these Regulations, preventing its occurrence and punishing those who indulge in ragging as provided for in these Regulations and the appropriate law in force.

  • The College provides a congenial atmosphere for the safety of the junior students. Senior students have been well informed about the adverse effects of ragging
  • The Anti-Ragging committee co-ordinators and counsellors organise meetings regularly to create awareness of the menace of ragging. The students are made aware of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Ragging Act 1997, which insists on 2 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 10,000/- on ragging
  • Heads and faculty members of all the departments take steps to prevent ragging among students
  • Students staying in the hostels are being monitored to confirm their friendly relationship amongst all
  • Hostel-incharge conducts meetings to create awareness among the hostel students on ragging
  • Special instructions are given to the hostel wardens to check regularly for avioding adverse activities among the inmates of the hostel
  • If there is any problem related to ragging on the campus, it will be brought to the notice of anti-ragging committee co-ordinators
  • The students are asked to post their complaints in the Suggestion Box which is kept near the College office

Activities

  • On 12.08.2024 the Anti - Ragging Committee celebrated the Anti - Ragging week involving every senior student of the campus
  • Short films and Documentaries were screened to both the Days scholar and Hostellers
  • The Anti Ragging Committee conducted various competitions such as Slogan Writing and Poster Presentation. The Slogan Writing and the Poster Presentation Competitions were conducted on the theme “Respect for all, Ragging for none” and “Say no to Ragging, yes to Friendship” respectively
  • The posters and slogans were stuck all around the campus to create awareness among all the students
  • A colloborative lecture titled "Balancing Screen Timing for Wellbeing." was organized by the Department of Physical Education, Students Counselling Cell, Anti-Ragging Committee and MANASA Club for Mental Wellness on 21.09.2024 at Vidhya Ganapathy Hall. The primary goal of the lecture was to address the critical issue of managing screen time for the overall health and wellbeing of students
  • Ms. S. Jessica Grace, M.Sc. Psychology, Provisional Zone Trainer of JCI India, discussed the dangereous effects of excessive screen time on mental, emotional, and physical health
  • A Special Lecture on “Cyber Safety and Gender Sensitivity” was organized by the Students Counselling Cell, Department of Physical Education, and the Anti-Ragging Committee on 25.09.2024. The session was led by Ms. T. Jayanthi Rani, B.Sc., B.L., a prominent advocate and former member of the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. The lecture aimed at increasing an awareness on the importance of staying safe and promoting sensitivity towards gender issues, especially among the young women of today.
