Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM)
Swachhata Hi Seva-2024
The Swachh Bharat Mission, launched by the Government of India in 2014, stands as a national movement aimed at creating a cleaner, more hygienic India, while fostering a deep-seated commitment to cleanliness in every aspect of daily life. This mission, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's vision of a clean India, encourages individuals, institutions, and communities to take ownership of their environment, reduce waste, and maintain hygiene.
Celebrating the Swachhata Hi Seva, a Fortnight Initiative, the college organized a series of impactful activities that bring the mission's goals to life. These included an oath-taking ceremony symbolizing a shared commitment to maintain cleanliness and create a model campus, insightful student-led special addresses, and thought-provoking essay writing, oratorical, and quiz competitions focusing on environmental awareness.
Other activities included cycle rallies to promote eco-friendly transport and “Trash to Treasure” exhibitions to creatively repurpose waste. The college also emphasized sustainable practices through initiatives like the Meendum Manjapai scheme, which encourages the use of cloth bags over single-use plastics. Extending these values beyond campus, students led door-to- door cleanliness campaigns in surrounding communities and distributed saplings as symbols of ecological commitment.
The campus also hosted eco-conscious Food and Cultural Fests, observed "No Vehicle Day" to reduce emissions and carbon footprints, and engaged in Plogging, a combination of jogging with picking up litter. Participants were appreciated through awards and recognitions.
Through these dedicated efforts, Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College exemplified the goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission, establishing itself as a model of sustainability and a steward of environmental consciousness, working towards a cleaner, greener future.
