Profile

The department of Nutrition and Dietetics was incepted in the year 1983. The undergraduate programme in Nutrition and Dietetics includes the complete study of basic components of foods; their nutrients chemistry and metabolism; technology involved in food processing and preservation; food safety; functional food and nutrigenomics; meal planning, quantity food production and therapeutic dietary modifications with a focus on human health and well-being. Nutrition is the foundation for good health that is a vital component of national development. The department is making concerted efforts to achieve the national goal of “Health for All” through its continuous societal outreach activities in the rural areas serving the women and children, there by realizing the vision of our esteemed institution. Since its inception, the department has directed its activities towards development of the community to shape the prospective academicians, administrators, researchers, entrepreneurs and health conscious citizens.

  • On International Cookie Day 2024, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics’ association organised a talk on “Vision to Victory – A Motivational Session with a Successful Entrepreneur” on 29.11.2024. Mrs. Vishnu Priya Chellasamy shared her success story as the founder of Zhagaram Bakes
  • In connection with National Nutrition Month celebrations’ 2024-Swasthya Utsav, Vegetable Craving, Salad making and treasure hunt competitions were conducted on 27.09.2024
  • Commemorating National Nutrition Month celebrations’ 2024 - Swasthya Utsav, One day exhibition was organised on 26.09.2024. The students of Department of Nutrition and Dietetics have displayed various food science, human physiology, healthy eating practices and nutrition models constructed by them.   • SRC MasterChef Competition was conducted on 24.09.2024 in connection with National Nutrition Month celebrations’ 2024-Swasthya Utsav
  • Conducted Nutrition Awareness Program at ICDS Anganwadi, Butterworth Road, Tiruchirappalli on 23.09.2024 in collaboration with ICDS Srirangam. Ms. B.Kowsalya CDPO officer was the chief guest for the awareness program
