
The department of Botany was started in the year 1963 and celebrated its golden jubilee in the year 2013. The department has received Research Fund from Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Department of Science and Technology (DST). It has organized hands on training and exhibition on herbarium & museum. It maintains a “Diamond Jubilee herbal garden” in the campus. Faculty are actively engaged in research activities and publish papers in peer reviewed journals. They have completed major and minor projects funded by University Grants Commission (UGC). The curriculum is designed and developed to suit the needs of the students for higher studies and self entrepreneurship. The UGC has sanctioned Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) in Horticultural Science, a degree programme under the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF)

- The Phyto Club organized a meeting on “Guidance and Coaching for Competitive Examinations” featuring a session titled "TNPSC Success Blueprint: Study Smart, Score High!" on 05.02.2025. The session was conducted by Dr. D. Vijayarani, Assistant Professor of Tamil, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Arts and Science for Women, Perambalur. She provided students with effective strategies to excel in TNPSC examinations
- A Soft Skills Programme titled "Empower, Evolve, Excel: Mastering Soft Skills for Success" was organized on 05.02.2025. The session was conducted by Dr. J. Albert Vincent Paulraj, Assistant Professor of English, Urumu Dhanalakshmi College, Trichy. He talked on essential soft skills for both professional and personal growth
- The Phyto Club, Rotaract Club, and IIC jointly organized two sessions on the theme "Ethics & Values: The Cornerstones of Professionalism" on 03.02.2025. The first session, "Striking the Perfect Harmony: The Value of Work-Life Balance," was led by Dr. J. Subashini. Associate Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur, Chennai. The second session, "Professional Ethics," was delivered by Dr. M. Valarmathi. Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur, Chennai. Both sessions emphasized the importance of professional ethics and maintaining a healthy work-life balance
- In collaboration with the Departments of Biochemistry, Chemistry, Home Science, Nutrition & Dietetics, Zoology, Biotechnology, and Hospital Administration, a workshop titled "Potential Diagnostic Utility of miRNAs in Neurodegenerative Diseases" was organized on 22.01.2025. The session was conducted by Dr. Siranjeevi Nagaraj, Principal Investigator, Université libre de Bruxelles, Belgium. He focused on the role of microRNAs in diagnosing neurodegenerative disorders
- The Phyto Club organized a meeting on "Safeguarding Creativity: The Power of Intellectual Property Rights" on 01.02.2025. The session was conducted by Dr. V. Manickam, Associate Professor, Department of Electronics, St. Joseph's College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli. He highlighted the importance of intellectual property rights in protecting innovations and creativity
- National Pollution Control Day was celebrated on 02.10.2024. In connection with that session on "Phycoremediation on Heavy Metals" was conducted by Dr. M. Hemalatha, Associate Professor, Department of Botany. The session focused on the use of algae for heavy metal remediation in polluted environments
- In collaboration with the Phyto Club, Rotaract Club, Students’ Exnora, and IIC, an awareness session on "Trends in Technology" titled "Ecoinnovate" was organized on 01.10.2024. Dr. D. - The Phyto Club organized a meeting on "Nature’s Inspiration" on 27.09.2024. The session was conducted by Ms. Dharshini Umaidurai, Research Scholar, Singapore National Co-operative Federation (SNCF), Singapore. He spoke on environmental conservation and sustainable practices
- A special lecture on "Entrepreneurial Skills for Success" was organized on 02.09.2024. Ms. Chitra Kumar, Managing Director of Veda Wellness Center Salon & Spa, Chennai, focused on key entrepreneurial skills and strategies for achieving success
- World Peace Day on the theme “The Colourful” was celebrated on 21.09.2024. Ms. Chandralatha Murugan, Executive Director of International Sales and Business Development at Mesalvo GmbH, Germany, delivered an insightful talk on the significance of world peace
- In collaboration with the Rotaract Club, the Students’ ExNoRa organized a meeting titled "Swachhta Hi Seva" was organized on the theme of Clean Initiative and Solid Waste Management on 20.09.2024. - A meeting on "Personal Development and Self-Care" was organized on 11.09.2024. Mr. Narayanasamy Chinnasamy, an IT Consultant from Colchester, United Kingdom, emphasized the importance of self-care and personal growth
- A meeting titled "Mastering Effective Communication: A Key to Success" was organized on 19.08.2024. The session was led by Ms. Ganga Ravindran, Senior Software Engineer at Epiroc Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, who focused on improving communication skills and enhancing professional interactions
- A hands-on training on Defense and Disarm was held on 10.08.2024. Ms. S. Shalini, a second-year M.Sc. Biotechnology student from R.V.S. Arts and Science College, Sulur, Coimbatore, demonstrated practical self-defense techniques
